Hello, Darklings!

Autumn (and Winter of course) has always been the “Gothiest” season of them all! I couldn’t be happier to be able to post Autumn outfit ideas for you guys! There’s such a peaceful and beautiful melancholic darkness in this season, that one wishes to snuggle in it forever. I really wanted to feel extra Goth today, so I decided to take the pictures for this post in the most Gothic town in Alsace: Sélestat, the Gothic vibe in it is extremely strong. If you ever happen to be visiting Alsace, definitely stop by this adorable medieval little town!

When I think of Gothic elegance in Autumn, I cannot help but run to my favourite fabric ever: Velvet! Just cover me from head to toe in velvet, and I’ll be the happiest person ever. There’s such an exquisite sophistication in any kind of velvet clothing especially when it’s either black, dark red or dark purple (the inevitable Gothic trio, I know right?). The key piece here is this gorgeous Victorian black velvet coat, it is simply outstanding and extremely flattering.

I’m also a quite big fan of plaid dresses and skirts, so there wouldn’t be a better idea than to combine my velvet passion with my plaid one all in one post! This outfit is definitely one of my most elegant and classiest ones. I simply love it. Hope it is to your liking too!

8 Dark, Eccentric & Elegant Fashion icons

Hello Darklings!

As all of you might have guessed by now, this blog’s main mission is to show the ELEGANT side of Dark/Alternative/Gothic Fashion, the one that can be worn with confidence within any kind of a demanding professional environment (e.g. legal professionals). Indeed, it is not always easy to put together a stylish outfit that does not necessarily fall into your “typical alternative/shock look”. Let’s face it, most of us have either abandoned their alternative style at the workplace or have opted for more “style forgiving” jobs (e.g. makeup artist, bartender, hair artist, musician, painter, digital artist, tattoo artist etc). The truth is, it does not have to be a “take it or leave it” situation. Gothic fashion comes from an extremely elegant and classy background. It’s enough to take a look at a few Victorian outfits to figure it out. Of course, when in a corporate environment, any temptations for excessive or non-fit accessories and clothes should not be taken into consideration. Eccentric Elegance should be the main key and guideline to our outfits.

That is why I decided to put up a list of my main Dark Elegance style inspirations/icons that help me in my everyday professional life to look both macabre and elegant! Hope it will be of use to all of you, I know it is to me:

  • Dita Von Teese
  • Karl Lagerfeld
  • Helena Bonham Carter
  • Chantal Thomass
  • Eva Green
  • Victoria Beckham
  • Kat Von D
  • Marilyn Manson

Hello, Darklings!

My apologies for being away for a while, I’ve been quite busy for the last couple of weeks. But I’m back now with an exciting new post!

As a Goth, you all know by now that my colour preference goes to mainly black and dark purple indigo, but hey, when the colour is beautiful, eccentric (and alternative/dark), there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be added to our alternative palette! I was totally mind-blown by the metallic pattern (yes metallics are in again this autumn!) and colours of this Teddy bomber jacket by Maje. It makes me feel like a Gothic mermaid (plus it has my name: Teddy can be used as a short version for Theodora). It can be styled with both casual and formal outfits, truly amazing and perfect for autumn.

Her Infernal Purpleness #5 (1 of 1)

Hello, Darklings!

Since I mentioned in my last post my long-time obsession with the Dark Purple colour, I thought this outfit would be the perfect opportunity to tell you briefly the story behind “Her Purple Eyes”.

“Her Purple Eyes” was/still is one of my first Gothic nicknames that was given to me long, long time ago by someone I used to know. Purple has always been my favourite colour as it symbolises the majesty and beauty I love so much about the Gothic culture. Black has always been a preference, but Purple, this ROYAL colour is inseparable from my personality. The divinity in this colour makes it like no other. And every time someone asks me about my purple obsession, I always reply: “not just any PURPLE, the DARK, COLD, MAJESTIC PURPLE (or simply INDIGO Purple)!

To come back briefly to this person I was talking about, let’s just say they kind of baptised my purple majesty with “her purple eyes” because, in their mind, I’ll always have purple eyes. And then stemming from this nickname, different people I’ve known/still know have given/keep giving me nicknames related to my “Purpleness”. One of the very first and most used ones I got are: “Purple Lady, Purple Witch, Her Infernal Purpleness, Purpulina…” The years proved this simple preference to become a wonderful concept and myth around which so many things about me revolve. My Purple Darkness has become a defining element of my being. Amazing. The story of “her purple eyes” will never stop growing, for whatever I do is tainted by “purpleness”.

Metal Fest #8 (1 of 1)

Hello, Darklings!

Since it is still music festivals season, I thought I’d share with you one of my favourite Metal Festival outfits. It is ALWAYS important to wear light clothing especially if you are a metalhead and even more so if you are a GOTHIC metalhead such as myself. Platform boots are a very essential part of our festival looks since that’s the place where you can completely reveal your true self (particularly fashion-wise) without any social judgement. Unfortunately, the summer heat poses often a problem to alternative fashion creativity. That’s why the BEST option for us metal chicks, is wearing extremely thin (mesh in my case) black dresses, and at the same time remaining creative (there’s such a wild range of alternative dresses out there). I am personally a big fan of KILLSTAR dresses as they don’t use the usual uncomfortable corsetry in their designs. I think most of you out there will agree with me in that corset dresses are EXTREMELY uncomfortable to wear at such events, they suck the fun out of them in fact. In my case, I chose this gorgeous Hockey mesh dress with a very cool statement on it and paired it with cotton black shorts & a black sports bra underneath. This way I get to wear my kick-ass DEMONIA platform sneakers without worrying about being too warm or getting my feet into mud/sand (which can be the case if I’m wearing sandals).

This year, I decided to go to a smaller festival, as I’ve been attending some huge ones for the past few years. This summer was full of concerts where I live and nearby so I’ve been attending “one-day fests” and the most exciting one will be taking place this August in Colmar – France, called “Hard Rock Session” combining some legendary headliners such as Arch Enemy, Slayer & Limp Bizkit. The even cooler thing about it is that it’s part of a wine fair! So, if any of you, dear readers, is going to this festival, let me know, this way we can meet & enjoy the concerts together! Cheers!

P.S. I would also love to know which festivals you attended/are going to attend this summer!

Hello, Darklings!

This post, as you may have noticed, is largely inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s exquisite style! I’ve always had a weakness for dark vintage outfits, and this Newspaper Black & White dress from Modcloth couldn’t be more perfect for such looks! As I’m always looking for the classiest and most elegant combination for all of my Dark/Goth outfits, I find cinematic icons such as Ms Hepburn, Morticia Addams and Cruella Deville pretty inspiring!

The simplicity & yet mystery in this kind of style is IRRESISTIBLE! Just give me the perfect black sunglasses and hat, and I couldn’t feel darker & classier!

Hello, Darklings!

This post is very dear to my heart. I really wanted to put up an outfit that illustrates my love & passion for my two favourite Gothic Metal bands. HIM & Marilyn Manson are the reason I’m still here today writing these lines and sharing my dark fashion insights with you guys. In every person’s life, there are some quite rough times that need something to hold on to. Something that gives us strength & an unalterable will to carry on; a rock. Well, these two bands were, still are and always will be my two rocks.

Ville Valo and Marilyn Manson saved me during two extremely difficult periods of my life. The first one happened when I moved from Lebanon to France permanently (the second time I change countries as I’ve been doing it my whole life basically; for more details about that, I’ll put a link down below of my co-authored post: “The Cosmopolitan Child: pros & cons”). This transition was very hard as I was already a teenager (17 yo) and more aware of the challenges such a change brings with it (the first time I moved out of a country was when I was 9 yo). I had to adapt yet again to another culture, despite the fact that it was closer to mine as I was going back to Europe again (born in Bulgaria). I was returning home in a sense, but it sure didn’t feel that way. The moving took place quite fast and before I knew it, I found myself in a new country where I had to re-adapt yet again. As I arrived in the summer, school wasn’t starting until 3 months later, so I had no one to talk or spend time with except my family, my music and my dark soul. I did enjoy the much faster internet connection though (Lebanon is known for one of the shittiest connections in the world lol), so I took upon myself to download the discographies of all of my favourite bands starting with HIM of course. I spent endless days and especially nights, listening & discovering more and more bands in various metal genres. I felt so rich; I felt truly happy. Every night, I would watch on Youtube countless of interviews with Ville Valo, all of HIM’s live concerts and performances, along with all of the band’s albums and rare tracks of course. That way I never felt alone, I was embracing further and further my Gothic nature and music.

When it comes to the second incident that required my music’s help, it occurred not so long ago (and is still on-going), after I graduated from University with a  Master’s degree in Public International Law. As most of you already know, the current economic climate does not really help with finding internships and jobs. I struggled for 4 months after I graduated to find my first internship. And when it ended 3 months later, I have been looking ever since, for 6 months now, for a job. If it wasn’t for Marilyn Manson’s music, art, philosophy and not-giving-up/not-giving-a-damn attitude making me stronger & stronger, I wouldn’t be still looking and insisting on getting a job in my field, which I’m very passionate about.

It is the Beauty in my Darkness and the Darkness in my Beautiful world that make me carry on no matter what. I love it so much that it makes me cry every time I listen to those songs that saved me. That’s why I am most honoured to share with you two of my most favourite performances of HIM and Marilyn Manson (links down below).

Hope you enjoyed the read!
